During my time at Cal Poly, my friend and I stared up a workshop where we taught students how to use computers as tools for science. We planned a free 10 week course where we taught students how to write code in Python and use UNIX/Linux systems. Teaching students the basics of computer programming and operating systems was one of the highlights of my time at Cal Poly. I’ve taught this workshop for the past 3 years and aim to pass it down to future Cal Poly students in order to continue giving physics students an easy and accessible way to learn to code.
